Apology…

So last week I made an offhand reference to Richard Schmid’s “Alla Prima” book and linked it to Amazon. This was lazy of me. I kinda take it for granted that everyone already has this book, its so fundamental. But if you don’t have it and are interested, please patronize the artists website instead: https://www.richardschmid.com/

Sadly, we lost Richard a couple of years ago, but his family still runs the website. I’ve purchased a number of his books and have gotten huge value out of them.

Below is a quick video portrait of Richard by the very accomplished painter Tina Garret:

Gesture Drawing

Now this artist is super fun to watch draw and truly makes the most beautiful brush pen strokes that I have ever seen. But beware, just like Doritos, you won’t be able to stop with just one. After watching one of his videos you’ll be bingeing all of them:)

Further Study

The following video discusses some of the ways you can expand your skills from the context of figure drawing. The artist offers some good suggestions, and if nothing else, you’ll enjoy his accent:)

And if your enjoying figure drawing and looking for more references here’s a nice resource:
